About this app

Gold Khata Book is a khata (ledger) built for gold wholesalers who supply
jewellery retailers and carry their running account until it is settled.

It is not a retail billing app. The whole ledger is denominated in grams of
fine gold at 99.50 purity, because that is how the trade actually settles.
Cash is treated as one way of clearing that position at the day's rate, not
as a second unit of account.

WHAT IT DOES

Retailer accounts
Every retailer has a running account you can open and read at a glance. The
home screen leads with who owes what, because that is the question you open
the book to answer.

Two balances, settled separately
An order carries a metal balance in grams and a cash balance in rupees, and
they clear independently. A retailer can pay in metal, in cash, or in both on
the same day, and the account reflects exactly that. An order is only complete
when both sides are clear, so nothing closes while charges are still
outstanding.

Purity, wastage and fine weight
Ornament weight, purity and wastage convert to fine gold using the same
arithmetic your bill already uses, so the figure on screen matches the figure
you write. Rounding follows the point at which the number is written down, not
an arbitrary internal precision.

Melt lots
Record old metal taken in from a retailer, weighed and credited to their
account as a melt lot with its own reference.

Invoices and statements
Raise an invoice against the day's rate, and produce a statement for any
retailer covering their orders, payments and closing position. Print to a
thermal printer or share as a document.

Daily rate
Set the day's 24K rate once and the app prices against it, with a prompt so it
is not forgotten.

Security
Sign in with a one-time password sent to your phone. Lock the app behind your
device fingerprint or face unlock so the book is not readable if the phone is
handed over or lost.

WHO IT IS FOR

Gold wholesalers, karigars and bullion dealers who supply jewellery shops on
account and reconcile in fine gold rather than in rupees. If you keep a paper
khata denominated in grams and settle at the day's rate, this is the same book,
kept on your phone.

WHAT IT IS NOT

It is not a payment service and moves no money. It is a record-keeping app: it
stores the accounts you enter and the arithmetic that follows from them.
