The City Society of the Red Cross Zagreb is an association for the promotion of humanitarian goals and tasks in the field of protection and improvement of health, social welfare, health and humanitarian education. The Red Cross Organization of the City of Zagreb was founded in 1878 and is one of the oldest Red Cross organizations in the Republic of Croatia. The Society is an independent, non-governmental and non-profit organization that operates with the help of volunteers as well as professionally engaged staff. The Society organizes and implements various forms of assistance to citizens in the spirit of humanism and solidarity and in accordance with the seven basic principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement: humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntariness, unity and universality. The humanistic upbringing of children, youth and the entire citizenry develops society as a whole by strengthening solidarity, humanity and respect for the human being, and promotes the principles of mutual assistance, tolerance, cooperation among people and living in peace.
