Graveyard Night is a first-person survival horror game set in a haunted South Asian graveyard. Something waits between the graves after dark: the churail of Pakistani folklore. Find the pages of a caretaker's lost diary, keep your torch alive, and hide from her until you can escape.
The story
For thirty-one years Baba Karamat kept this qabristan. Then one night he locked the gate from the inside. His diary is torn into pages and scattered across the graves, and each page tells you a little more about the young bride who was buried here in a hurry in the monsoon of 1947. Find them. Keep your torch alive. And when you hear her, do not run unless you have to.
Four chapters
• The Gate: learn the dark, the torch and the diary pages.
• The Well: rain, a bigger graveyard, and she is faster.
• The Tomb: seven pages around a great domed tomb.
• The Banyan: light seven oil lamps around the old tree before she reaches you.
Survive the night
• Your torch is your only weapon. Hold the flashlight beam on her and she is driven back, but it drains the battery.
• Hide in the small shrines. Step inside, switch off your light, and she cannot find you, unless she saw you go in.
• Stealth matters. Footsteps carry, so walk, crouch and listen. Running is loud, and she follows the sound.
• Find batteries and keep spares. When the light dies, the dark is total.
• Iron nails from the old folklore save you once if she catches you.
• New to horror games? Short hints appear the first time you need them, and all the tips are a tap away.
Built for the dark
• A real-time 3D graveyard with moonlight, fog, rain and lightning.
• Sound all around you: rustling pages, whispers behind you, and her shriek. Play with headphones.
• Jump scares, a hunter who follows every sound you make, and a dread that never quite lets go.
• Urdu touches throughout, from the chapter names to the title: قبرستان کی رات.
• Earn coins to upgrade your battery, beam, lungs and footsteps, and unlock new torch colours.
• Your place in a chapter is saved, so you can stop and carry on later.
• Graphics adjust to your phone, including budget phones.
Behind the game
The churail is one of the best-known spirits of South Asian folklore: a woman wronged in life, said to walk with her feet turned backwards and to call people by name in the night. The diary pages, the oil lamps around the banyan and the iron nails all come from those old tales. Graveyard Night is made in Pakistan by Maaddism Productions.
