New server mode is very good! It was operator error at 3 a.m. that prompted my initial poor review. I had loaded the new app the day before and had it working fine. Then 3 hours into a a smoke the next day, I lost the network connection and couldn't get the grill control back, manual or otherwise. Panic came on pretty quick! However, I feel that there should be an alternate version available (pre-server mode) as a back up when the home network isn't available. I just don't know how to get from server mode to point to point at 3 a.m?
Some issues getting the app set up. When it works, it's great. Configuration did not go smoothly. The grill initially wouldn't connect to my network. After hours of troubleshooting, I discovered that my network password was preventing the grill from connecting. I shortened and simplified the password. After that, everything worked smoothly. For those with problems connecting, you may want to rule that out as a potential issue. Aside from the initial setup problems the features are unique and groundbreaking. Really like where it's going.
Very frustrated... I've had my GMG Daniel Boone about a month and have cooked on it about 5-6 times but the wifi is complete garbage...glad it appears I'm not the only one having issues with it. I can't get my Android phone more than 5-10 feet away before it loses connection. I've resorted to sitting the phone on the shelf on the right hand side and it STILL intermittently loses connection throughout the cooking time. I also believe there may be an issue with the temperature probe being off also, tends to overcook it seems
💡For those complaining about wi-fi💡 If you keep getting connection errors via "network" wi-fi, you might want to get yourself a wi-fi repeater. Especially if you live in a large home, or if your router signal has to pass through several walls before it reaches the smoker.. Place the wi-fi repeater closer to the smoker, like in the 1st closest room to the smoker. It fixed my wi-fi issues. You can get a decent wi-fi repeater on ebay for around 15-20 dollars.
Ok, needs some tweaks I didn't have too many issues during setup which was good. The real issue for me is that the app needs alarm settings for instance, loss of connectivity with the device, temperature drop or even that the unit has turned off before a program has finished. All of which happen if there's a power out that not only turns off the machine, wipes the program on the client but of course doesn't turn it back on. Alarms can easily be programmed into the APP, thus, its just ok, needs work
Frustration!!! Cooked about 4 times on my pellet grill and I've had nothing but trouble with the wifi version. First temp probe was sporadic in reading temps. It literally jump all over the place. Got a new one sent to me and same thing happened. Called them and reported the trouble and was sent a new board. With the new board I've only been able to connect once via app. When I did, the temp reading said 551° but I didn't even have the probe plugged in. Left 2 messages for support and they won't call back.
