Understand your vinyl playback setup with Groove Scope, a focused measurement tool from Direct Sound Records.
Connect your turntable and phono stage to a compatible stereo USB audio interface, then use a test record with dedicated left-only and right-only 1 kHz tracks. Groove Scope guides you through two sixteen-second captures and brings the results together in one measurement profile.
CHECK YOUR INPUT
Watch live left and right input levels, peak levels and clipping warnings. Inspect the frequency spectrum and harmonic preview, and see live speed estimates for 33⅓ or 45 RPM.
EXPLORE YOUR RESULTS
• Average platter speed and deviation from nominal RPM.
• Raw wow and flutter RMS estimates for each test track.
• Directional electrical crosstalk in both directions.
• An azimuth alignment indication based on crosstalk balance.
• Left and right H2–H5 harmonic levels and total harmonic distortion.
• Rotation Fingerprint views of recurring speed, level, leakage and distortion patterns where the captured signal supports analysis.
KEEP A REFERENCE
Save, name, revisit and delete measurement results on your device. Repeat both captures after an adjustment and compare the numbers under consistent conditions.
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT
A turntable, an appropriate phono stage, a compatible Android device and stereo USB audio interface, and a test record with separate left-only and right-only 1 kHz reference tracks. Equipment and test records are not included. A phone microphone or mono adapter cannot reliably measure directional electrical crosstalk. USB interface compatibility depends on the Android device and audio routing.
INTERPRETING MEASUREMENTS
Results include the test record and the full playback and recording chain. Android processing, interface behaviour and capture conditions can affect readings. Wow and flutter values are raw RMS estimates, not standards-weighted peak ratings. The azimuth indication is a setup aid, not a definitive diagnosis. Rotation Fingerprint is an observation of the captured setup, not a universal sound-quality score. Repeat uncertain readings and compare like-for-like setups.
PRIVATE AND FOCUSED
Audio is processed on your device. Audio recordings are not saved or uploaded. Results stay in private app storage until you delete them. No user account, advertising, subscription or in-app purchase is required; the app is purchased through Google Play.
