About this app

CrookCatcher is an app that takes a picture of anyone trying to unlock your phone with the wrong pin-code, password or pattern. It then emails the photo along with your phone's GPS location to you, without them knowing.

CrookCatcher has helped many people recover their stolen phones, as they were able to show a picture of the thief to the police or their friend group, who could then identify the thief. Please never attempt to recover a stolen phone from the thief by yourself as this could be dangerous.

Essential features are free:
• Take picture
• Obtain location
• Send alert email

PRO features:
• Multiple pictures with both cameras
• Record sound clip
• Sound alarm
• Show message to thief on lock screen
• Fake home screen: if someone should force you to hand over your unlocked
phone
• Detect break-in
• Retry email: if phone is offline, save email for later
• Change email subject: so a thief doesn't see revealing email notifications
• App lock
• Disguise app: change CrookCatcher icon to a files icon.
• Hide alert notifications until unlocked
• No ads

More information can be found in the app or the website: www.crookcatcher.app

Note:
- This app uses the Device Administrator permission to monitor screen unlock attempts.
- If you are having trouble uninstall CrookCatcher: Restart your device, wait 10 minutes, then go to CrookCatcher -> Help -> Uninstall.
- CrookCatcher does not support pop up cameras.
- CrookCatcher cannot detect wrong fingerprints
- Unfortunately, after rebooting the phone must be unlocked once before CrookCatcher works. This is an android security precaution that we cannot circumvent.

This app used to work perfectly on my phone. After the August 2022 update it is not working properly. After 8-10 attempts I might get one picture of an intruder (set for 2 failed attempts) and sometimes no pictures at all. Defeats the whole purpose of the app. I have noticed that many negative reviews are after the update date. I wish I never updated or had kept an apk file for the older version. Some apk files won't install or work but it's not working now anyways. I have to uninstall.

I have the free version of this app and given my results i have not been convinced to purchase the full version, let alone keep the free version. After a few days of testing I have determined that this app works less than 10% of the time. I have intentionally and unintentionally entered the incorrect authentication and the app only responded a few times. I have changed the settings and configurations in order to hopefully get better results however it rarely works as advertised.

The app doesn't work at all with the s23 ultra. I had it properly set up yet it doesn't detect invalid attempts or send me an email. It worked perfectly with the Galaxy S9.
