About this app

Hasho is a hashing and encoding toolkit for people who work with files and text: MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256 and SHA-512 digests, Base64 and hex encoding, URL and HTML escaping, a byte-level view of any string, and random values drawn from the system's cryptographic generator.

Paste something twice and you get the same digest. Change one letter and roughly half the bits change — the app shows you exactly how many. Those two facts are what a digest is for, and Hasho is built to make both of them visible.

WHAT IS INSIDE

• Hash — one input, four algorithms, the digest in full with its byte length
• Algorithms — digest size, current status, and what each one is honestly for
• Encode — Base64, Base64url, hex, URL percent-encoding and HTML entities
• Bytes — your text character by character, with code points and UTF-8 bytes
• Random — random bytes, passwords, passphrases and version-4 UUIDs
• Entropy — what a bit count actually buys you, with the arithmetic shown
• Verify — a computed digest against one you paste, with the first differing character marked
• File Checksum — a file you choose, hashed in eight-kilobyte blocks

HOW IT WORKS

Every digest comes from the Android platform's own MessageDigest implementation; Hasho writes no cryptography of its own and ships no third-party library. Random values come from SecureRandom, the system's cryptographic generator, never from an ordinary random number generator. Files are streamed in blocks rather than loaded, so a large archive is no problem. Hex output is lowercase, grouped in eights, and never truncated.

WHAT THIS IS NOT

Encoding is not encryption. Anyone can turn Base64 back into the original text in a second — it exists to move bytes safely through things that only accept text, and it keeps nothing secret. A digest is not a password hash either: storing passwords needs a slow function with a salt, such as PBKDF2, scrypt or Argon2, and this app does not pretend to be one. MD5 and SHA-1 are offered because files in the world still carry them, and both are labelled broken for collision resistance on every screen that shows them. A matching checksum proves a file matches that checksum, and nothing more.

NO ACCOUNT, NO NETWORK, NO PERMISSIONS

Hasho requests zero Android permissions. It has no network code, no clipboard monitoring and no storage access — files reach it only through the system document picker, which grants access to the single file you chose. Nothing you paste in can leave the phone. No sign-in, no subscription, no in-app purchase, no advertising.

Eight full-screen background themes are included under More. The interface is English throughout.
MD5, SHA, Base64, hex and secure random. Offline, no account, 0 permissions.
