The AMAP Safe project for the city of Palermo was created for the prompt reporting of dangers from persistent flooding on the main road axis of Palermo < Viale Regione Siciliana >, caused by extraordinary meteorological events.
For the safety of motorists, a system of sensors has been installed capable of detecting even the slightest accumulation of water near the underpasses and, upon reaching certain alarm thresholds, to immediately signal the danger by switching on the flashing systems on the underpass and by sending the report to the bodies responsible for traffic management. Furthermore, through the AMAP SAFE App, users who have given their consent will be able to receive a notification on their smartphone.
Currently, there are 5 underpasses subject to control: Calatafimi, Pitrè, Da Vinci, Lazio, Belgium. Citizens, through the AMAP Safe App, will be able to read any accumulations of water for each underpass, view any critical issues reported by the system and view a photo of the underpass updated every 5 minutes (15 minutes in the absence of rain)
