About this app

Walking alone, late at night, on your way home, at a train station, in a parking garage, or on a dark street: Sometimes an uneasy feeling is enough. Heimweg Alarm helps you quickly attract attention and notify emergency contacts you have selected yourself.

How it works:

Activate protection mode before you start your journey. In an emergency, shake your smartphone firmly several times to trigger Heimweg Alarm. The app activates a loud siren, vibration, and a flashing phone light. If emergency contacts have been set up and the required permissions have been granted, the app will also attempt to automatically send an emergency SMS to up to three contacts selected by you.

Optional live location during an alarm:

You can enable live location sharing separately. It starts only after a real alarm is triggered - never before and never during a test alarm. Your emergency contacts receive a personal, time-limited link by SMS. After immediately transmitting the first location point, the app updates your position approximately once per minute. Sharing ends automatically after a maximum of 60 minutes or immediately if you stop it manually. If no location is available, the emergency SMS will still be sent.

Privacy:

Emergency contacts remain stored locally on your device. Live location sharing is disabled by default. Only after you enable it separately and a real alarm is triggered are your location, location accuracy, timestamp, and, where applicable, speed transmitted to the tracking service via an encrypted HTTPS connection. Names, phone numbers, emergency contacts, and SMS contents are not uploaded to the tracking service.

If a manual stop request is successfully transmitted, the active session is deleted. Otherwise, access to the location data ends automatically after a maximum of 60 minutes. Further information is available in the Privacy Policy.

Important:

Heimweg Alarm is an additional personal safety app and is not a substitute for contacting emergency services. The app does not guarantee that an alarm will be triggered or that assistance will be provided.

The siren, flashing light, SMS, location information, and live tracking may be affected or restricted by the device, Android, battery status, permissions, internet connection, mobile network, GPS, or server availability. Check your settings and emergency contacts regularly.
