Junior Chat Bot is a gentle, bilingual (English and Afrikaans) voice companion for preschool children — built by a parent, for one child at a time.

Your little one taps one big friendly microphone button and talks to one of four warm cartoon friends:

Each character listens, replies in a calm, age-appropriate voice, and gently invites your child into little activities — counting, colours, animal sounds, simple stories — in English or Afrikaans.

IMPORTANT — BRING YOUR OWN OPENAI API KEY
This app requires a parent to supply their own OpenAI API key. The app has no backend server and no account system: it makes direct calls from your device to the OpenAI API using your key, and you pay OpenAI directly for usage. If you don't have an OpenAI API key (platform.openai.com), the app will not work. Built-in spending caps let you limit how much a session or a day can cost.

SAFETY FIRST, BY DESIGN
Every single thing your child says passes through a five-layer safety pipeline before a character responds:
• OpenAI moderation on every turn — and if the moderation check itself fails or times out, the turn is treated as flagged and safely redirected. Safety never "assumes it's fine".
• Parent-configurable guardrails (blocked topics, gentle redirects).
• Crisis-pattern detection that can never be switched off — if a possible distress pattern is heard, you get a private flag in the Parent Zone with the date, character, and turn count only. Your child's words are deliberately never written down.
• Characters never use attachment language ("I love you", "I miss you"). They are playmates for activities, not substitutes for people.
• Session time limits and spending caps you control.

PRIVACY BY DEFAULT
• No analytics, no ads, no tracking, no third-party SDKs.
• Conversations are never stored — they live in memory and vanish when the session ends.
• All OpenAI requests are sent with retention disabled (store: false).
• Your API key and settings are stored on-device in encrypted storage.
• One "Delete All Data" button in the Parent Zone wipes everything, including the encryption key.

PARENT ZONE
Behind a parent gate: choose language and character behaviour, set daily time and spending limits, configure guardrails, review crisis flags, and delete all data.

A HOUSEHOLD APP, HONESTLY DESCRIBED
This is a household-use tool: you install it, you supply the key, you consent during setup, and you are the sole operator of your child's data. There is no developer-run service collecting information from children. Replies are generated by an AI model — they are usually lovely, occasionally imperfect, and always filtered through the safety pipeline above. Junior Chat Bot is a playful companion, not a teacher, therapist, or babysitter, and it works best with a grown-up nearby.
