About this app

node.you is an open-source social platform where you decide who can interact with your content. No bots, no ads, no algorithm - just real people you've chosen to verify.

Post freely on your profile, follow whoever interests you, and verify the people you actually know. Only verified users can comment and vote on your posts.

Use this app to:

• Manage your nodes - create your online identities and switch between them on any device

• Post content - text, images, videos, and links with Markdown rendering and public-or-private visibility

• Add contacts - search for others or scan QR codes (in person or online) to add them

• Follow others - see posts from everyone you follow in your feed

• Verify others - grant others permission to comment, vote, or view your private posts

• Comment and vote - interact on the posts of people who have verified you

• Stay anonymous by default - your identity on a comment is only revealed to viewers that you've verified

• Interact across services, seamlessly - the app silently handles signature-based service authentication; no required manual service authorization

• Customize how it looks - switch between bundled themes or load your own custom themes and styles from device storage

What is a node?

A node is your online identity, backed by public-key cryptography. Each node lives at its own web address (like someuser.node.you) and uses an Ed25519 key-pair to prove who you are.

Nodes are free. You can let node.you host yours on the node.you domain, or self-host the open-source server stack on your own custom domain.

What are contacts?

Contacts are other users that you follow and verify (or both). Search for another or scan their QR code - in person or on screen - to add them.

What is following?

Following lets you view other user's (public) posts in your feed. You can follow others without verifying them, meaning they won't be able to comment/vote on your posts until you verify them.

Follow anyone: friends, family, creators, journalists, public-figures, etc.

What is verification?

Verification is how you keep bots out. Verifying stores others' public keys with your node, and they're granted permission to comment and vote on your posts and view your private content.

Verification is one-way: you decide who can interact with your content, they decide who can interact with theirs. Mutual verification opens up full two-way interaction.

Profiles are an optional hosted service that enable posting - $5/month, locked at signup. Nodes themselves are always free.

The user interface is powered by Vortex, our open-source UI library for Jetpack Compose. Vortex puts you in control of how the app looks - switch themes anytime, or load your own custom themes and styles from device storage.

Themes are powered by Layers, our open-source theme framework.
