The app calculates the liming rate (usually in tonnes per hectare or pounds per acre) required to raise the current soil pH to a specific target pH suitable for the intended crop.
How It Works
To provide an accurate recommendation, the app typically requires the following inputs:
Current Soil pH: The acidity level measured from a recent soil test.
Target pH: The ideal pH level for the specific crop (e.g., $6.5$ for many vegetables, or $5.5$ for tea).
Soil Texture/Type: Sandy soils require less lime than clay or organic soils because they have a lower buffering capacity (resistance to pH change).
Liming Material Quality: The Neutralizing Value (NV) and particle size of the lime being used (e.g., calcitic vs. dolomitic limestone)
