About this game

ChessTactics teaches every tactical motif the way a course does: a lesson, a drill, then a test with the theme hidden. The fork, the pin, the skewer, the back-rank mate, the deflection, the discovered attack — each one gets its own chapter, at three levels, and a continuous path that walks you through them.

WHAT YOU GET

• The path — one continuous trail of chapters, each a lesson, a drill and a test. Learn the pattern, then prove it with the motif hidden.

• Rated puzzles — ten puzzles calibrate you, then the ladder is yours. Every move is checked on our servers, so the rating means something.

• Sprint — three minutes, five minutes or survival. Ranked boards, because the answers never leave the server.

• Practice — you pick the motif and the level. Unrated, so choosing costs you nothing.

• The daily — one shared puzzle a day, the same position for everyone.

• Your games — link your Lichess or Chess.com account and we walk every move with Stockfish. Where you had a tactic and played something else, it becomes a puzzle from your own game, named by motif.

• Review — every puzzle you miss comes back the next day, then in three days, then in a week, until it sticks.

WHY THE RATING MEANS SOMETHING

The app never holds the answer. Every move you play is sent to our servers and checked against the solution there, which is why a rating earned here is a rating you earned. It also means ChessTactics needs a connection: there is no offline mode, by design.

PREMIUM

A one-time purchase unlocks unlimited rated puzzles and practice, unlimited sprints, section III of every course, and a scan with no game limit. It is not a subscription: nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel.

Puzzles come from the Lichess open puzzle database (CC0), classified by motif and by rating.
