About this app

Open-source AI chat app that builds interactive screens, not just text. Kai 9000 is a free ChatGPT alternative with a soul, a heartbeat, persistent memories, and reinforced learning — an AI assistant that evolves with every conversation you have.

Unlike ordinary chatbots, Kai 9000 generates native interactive UI — buttons, forms, tables, charts, and full-screen apps — right inside the chat. Ask it to build a calculator, a quiz, a dashboard, or a to-do list, and it renders a real working interface you can tap, swipe, and interact with. This is AI beyond text.

🧠 Soul & Memory — A Chatbot That Knows You
Give Kai 9000 a personality by writing its "soul." It remembers what matters across conversations — your preferences, past learnings, and known issues — and reinforces that knowledge over time. Memories that prove useful get promoted into its permanent personality. The more you chat, the smarter it gets.

💓 Heartbeat — Your Always-On Personal Agent
Kai 9000 doesn't sleep. Its heartbeat system checks in on a schedule — reviewing pending tasks, emails, and trends — even when you're not chatting. Set the interval, active hours, and model. When something needs your attention, Kai 9000 surfaces it. When everything's fine, it stays quiet.

⚡ 24 Services — One App, Every Model
Connect to ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, DeepSeek, Llama, Mistral, Grok, and 17 more providers. Run local models via Ollama or LM Studio for private, offline use. Add multiple accounts, reorder priorities, and let the smart fallback chain handle outages automatically. A built-in free tier means you can start chatting with zero setup — no API key needed.

Supported Services
• OpenAI (GPT-4o, GPT-4, o1, o3)
• Google Gemini (with file attachments)
• Anthropic Claude
• DeepSeek (R1 reasoning)
• xAI Grok
• Mistral, Groq, OpenRouter, NVIDIA
• Together, Hugging Face, Cerebras
• Deep Infra, Fireworks, Venice, MiniMax, Moonshot
• Ollama / LM Studio / any OpenAI-compatible API
• Built-in Free tier

🛠️ 40+ Tools — Beyond Chat
Enable powerful tools that let the assistant act, not just talk:
• Web Search — real-time answers from the internet
• Email — check, read, reply, compose, and search
• Shell Commands — execute terminal commands on your device
• Task Scheduling — set up recurring tasks with cron expressions
• Calendar Events — create events directly from chat
• Text-to-Speech — hear responses aloud with natural voice output
• Notifications — triggered push alerts
• Location & Time — context-aware responses
• MCP Servers — connect to external tool servers

🖥️ Interactive UI Mode
Go full-screen. In Interactive Mode, Kai 9000 becomes a visual app builder — no markdown, no scrolling text. Just tappable, functional screens generated on the fly. Navigate entirely through buttons and inputs. It's like having a personal app developer in your pocket.

🔒 Privacy-First, Open Source & Ad-Free
All chat history is encrypted and stored locally on your device. No ads, no data collection, no tracking. API calls go directly to your chosen provider — Kai 9000 never sits in the middle. Run local models for a fully offline, private experience. Fully open source, fully transparent.

🌍 Works Everywhere
Use Kai 9000 on your Android phone, tablet, Chromebook, or desktop. Your assistant, always within reach.

Whether you're writing, coding, summarizing, translating, brainstorming, automating workflows, managing emails, or studying — Kai 9000 is the free, ad-free, open-source ChatGPT alternative that adapts to you.

This is a really good app! I do have some suggestions though: Maybe more encryption if you want it to be more private, some more color themes, a little number at the bottom of each text showing how much tokens it took, a widget for direct chat, and fallbacks to different AI models if you set up the API Key? These are just some suggestions but overall your app is great!

Edit: The developer made it so that opening a new chat session before you close the app is remembered on open of the app the next time. Thanks! Works really well and I like the ability to enable web search. I also like that it doesn't "typewriter" the results, but it instead waits until the whole result is available and shows it at once. I would love to have the option to start a new chat on launch by default please. Also consider adding the ability to make itself "the" Android Assistant?

Competition in this space is valuable and this app's open-sourced nature is a huge plus over the bigger apps. More user control is always a positive in my book. However, the fact that this app lacks the basic standard of user message editing tech is a strange omission. That's the first issue I have with this, the other odd issue is the app's capability to apparently only have a single chat string active at any time, it deletes the chat you have going if you try to start a new one. Multiple chats, please. The final issue is more an observation, but the memory logs of the bot seem to be bugged or something. It logged a memory once and despite me asking further questions it just didn't log anything new. Unless it adds to the existing logged memory, which if that's the case then please give us the ability to expand into it to fully read it. Again, either something's up or I'm missing something on this point. All that said I think this gave a good first impression and I'd like to continue using it, but these issues are contesting that. I hope you can find time to spruce things up here. 👍
