About this app

Focus: BU Reader is an INDEPENDENT application and has NO connection, affiliation, sponsorship, or representation of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), the Regional Electoral Courts (TREs), or any other governmental body. It does not replace the official results of the Electoral Court.

The application is exclusively for informational and verification purposes and works only with public information: that which the ballot box report itself prints on paper at the end of voting, and which anyone can photograph.

HOW IT WORKS

Point the camera at the QR Codes on the ballot box report. The app shows how many are missing and assembles the report automatically, in the order in which they appear — it is not necessary to read them in the correct sequence.

Integrity is verified by the hash chain printed on the ballot box report itself: if a number has been changed on paper, the app rejects it and indicates where. It is the same verification that the counting process performs afterward, done before the reading leaves your phone.

Without internet access, the reading is saved on the device and uploads automatically when the signal returns. You can continue reading in the meantime—no reading is lost in the queue.

When the camera is not good, due to reflection or crumpled paper, it's possible to read from a photo of the ballot.

A test QR code within the app allows the team to train before election day. Training ballots are never sent for counting.

WHAT THE APP SHOWS

Section, municipality, and zone; eligible voters and turnout; votes by candidate and by party; and, when the ballot is rejected, the exact reason.

WHO IT'S FOR

Inspectors, supporters, and coordinators who monitor the counting at the polling station entrance and want to verify, ballot by ballot, what was officially released.

PRIVACY

There is no registration, login, or password: the app works as soon as it opens. The reading location is only recorded at the moment you read, never in the background, and can be turned off in the Settings. No data is used for advertising.
