About this app

Noise Meter

Noise Meter is an Android app that uses your smartphone's microphone to measure ambient noise in real time. It helps you identify noise levels in your daily environment—such as workspaces, sleeping areas, or study spaces—to anticipate noisy environments and create a healthier, quieter environment.

Key Features

Real-time Measurement — The microphone detects ambient sounds and displays the noise level in decibels (dB). You can easily check the current noise level using a semi-circular gauge and a vertical bar, while a real-time line graph shows the trend of noise changes. The app records average, maximum, and minimum noise levels, as well as the elapsed time since the start of the measurement. A start delay of approximately 500ms prevents abnormally low noise levels from being recorded at the beginning of the measurement.

Measurement History — You can save measurement sessions with titles, view lists by date and time, access detailed information (average/maximum/minimum, measurement time, category), or delete individual or all records. All data is stored only on your device to protect your privacy.

Noise Meter Noise Scale (Educational) — A guide consisting of 9 levels ranging from approximately 0dB to 130dB+ explains the magnitude of each noise level through real-world examples, such as rustling leaves, conversation, lawnmowers, and jet engines. The app automatically categorizes current measurements, and the 'Level' control allows you to view the noise scale in full screen.

Controls — Features Start, Stop (Pause, Keep Data), Resume, Reset, and Save (Name History; end measurement upon saving). Button colors indicate the current status, making it easy for users to identify which stage of the measurement process they are in.

Calibration — A feature that allows you to set offset values in 0.1dB increments from -10dB to +10dB to adjust measurements based on the type of smartphone microphone. The set values are saved and retained for subsequent measurements.

Interface — Provides a clean layout featuring a dark theme, large and intuitive controls, gauges, bars, and charts. It operates responsively across various screen sizes.

** How to Use

Work Environment — Identify noise levels in noisy workspaces and record levels that may be dangerous with prolonged exposure.

Sleep Environment — Check if bedroom or nighttime noise is interfering with sleep.

Study Environment — Ensure your study space is quiet enough to concentrate.

Well-being Management — Record noise patterns over time and identify the impact of noise on stress, sleep, and comfort.

Noise Pattern Analysis — Compare noise levels by time of day and location to create a plan for a quieter routine or environmental improvements.
