About this app

Jerboa is a app for Lemmy, a federated reddit alternative. Jerboa is made by Lemmy's developers, and is free, open-source software, meaning no advertising, monetizing, or venture capital, ever.

Lemmy is similar to sites like Reddit, Lobste.rs, or Hacker News: you subscribe to forums you're interested in, post links and discussions, then vote, and comment on them. Behind the scenes, it is very different; anyone can easily run a server, and all these servers are federated (think email), and connected to the same universe, called the Fediverse.

Free and open source, always a plus. No ads. Somewhat customizable, but could be better. The killer feature of this app is that you can see both the upvotes and downvotes separately rather than being combined. Edit 2/2024: They partially took away that feature. Runs only okay. But this is enou-- hold up, why was I giving this app 5*? It's quite unreliable. The website works more often, and this app throws lots of network errors, and it's hard to log into your account.

Interested to try the app, but I cannot get anything to load. I am met with this error: "Value Error of type Java.lang.String cannot be converted to JSONObject". I have a Galaxy S10+ with the most recent OS.------------Okay, it seems like the server was just overloaded? I like the interface a lot. Similar to Reddit Sync. As far as I can tell, there is no way to create an account through the app, only login. Still, excited to give it a try.

It had some issues when I first started using it in June '23, but many of those seem pretty ironed out now. This is honestly a fantastic Lemmy app. It even has an AMOLED black mode. The layout is familiar and easy to use. It doesn't do things as fancy as some of the other apps, but what it does, it does well.
