DARK SEA is a turn-based, grid-based tactical roguelike set in a supernatural version of the Portuguese Age of Discovery. There are no health bars, no damage. There is only position, and a sea that swallowed navigators long before you.
You control Simão, an exile abandoned by the Portuguese kingdom in a land that old maps marked with "hic sunt dracones". The legend was right: Antília, the Island of the Seven Cities, is real, and so is what inhabits it.
NO HP. ONLY POSITION. Attacking an enemy doesn't take away their life, it pushes them. Cliffs, fire, and water kill on first contact, both enemies and Simão. Each room is a spatial puzzle: use the terrain against those who threaten you, or you will be the one to fall.
PREDICTABLE COMBAT, DIFFICULT DECISIONS. Enemies always telegraph their next action before executing it. The difficulty doesn't come from reflexes, but from managing multiple threats simultaneously on a board that changes with every push.
ARTIFACTS, NOT WEAPONS No more swords with increased damage. Artifacts change like pushes: spears that reach two squares, nets that push diagonally, torches that leave fire in their wake. Each artifact opens up a different strategy.
THE ROUTE A collection of lore that persists between descents: real historical fragments of the Portuguese Discoveries mixed with Iberian folklore and original fiction. Each descent reveals more about Antilia, the Moors who built it, and what Portugal traded for safe passage across the seas.
