Skip Track — Media Player Controller
Skip Track lets you skip music tracks using a persistent notification button, without needing to unlock your screen or switch to your media player app. Whether your screen is off, your phone is in your pocket, or you are using another app, Skip Track puts skip control one tap away at all times.
How it works
Once enabled, Skip Track displays a persistent notification with a skip button. When tapped, the app uses Android's AccessibilityService API to detect the currently active media player and simulate a skip track action on your behalf. The service works with any media player app installed on your device.
This approach is the only reliable way on Android to programmatically interact with third-party app playback controls without requiring root access or device modifications.
Why the Accessibility permission is needed
Android does not provide a public standard API that allows one app to control playback inside another app. The AccessibilityService API is the only framework available to achieve this on unrooted devices.
Skip Track uses the AccessibilityService exclusively to:
Detect which media player application is currently active in the foreground
Simulate a single "skip track" button press within that media player
The permission is not used for any other purpose. No screen content is read, recorded, or interpreted beyond identifying the active application.
Your privacy — what we collect and what we don't
Skip Track is designed with a minimal footprint and full respect for your privacy:
The app does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data
The app does not read, log, or process any screen content, text, or keystrokes
The app does not access contacts, location, camera, microphone, or any other sensitive resource
The AccessibilityService is used solely to trigger skip actions in media player apps
No data leaves your device at any time
Your consent and control
Before the AccessibilityService is activated, you will be shown a clear and explicit consent dialog explaining exactly how the permission is used. You must actively accept this dialog before any accessibility functionality is enabled. Closing or dismissing the dialog without accepting is treated as declining consent, and no accessibility features will be activated.
You remain in full control at all times. You can enable or disable the AccessibilityService at any time by navigating to Android Settings → Accessibility → Skip Track and toggling the service off. Disabling the service immediately and permanently stops all accessibility-related functionality until you choose to re-enable it.
Compatibility
Skip Track works with any media player that supports standard Android media controls, including music streaming apps, podcast players, and local audio players. No special configuration is required for individual apps.
Permissions summary
AccessibilityService API: Required to detect the active media player and simulate skip actions. Used for no other purpose.
Foreground Service / Notification: Required to keep the skip button available in your notification shade at all times.
No other permissions are requested or required.
