About this app

Build a daily Japanese reading habit — from your first kanji to JLPT N1. Yomaru starts with 2,227 hand-ordered JLPT kanji and 3,584 words, then reshapes what you meet next based on the Japanese you actually choose to read.

Want a daily Japanese reading habit? The Read tab pulls from a curated list of feeds — news, articles, stories — each tagged by reading level so you can pick something that fits where you are. Words you already know read clean; new kanji get furigana, and your study path decides what shows.

Stuck on a word in the wild? Snap a photo, paste the text, or share a page from any app. Yomaru adds furigana to every kanji and teaches anything you don't know yet. Every kanji you learn — from the curated path or from something you just read — unlocks new words and sentences you can now read.

WHY YOMARU

• Your own path — every kanji you learn reshapes what comes next. Word fusion turns 日 + 本 into 日本 the moment both are known. Two learners starting the same day will see different lessons by week two.
• Guided JLPT path — 2,227 kanji, 3,584 words, and 1,434 real sentences, ordered N5 → N1 to build reading ability, not alphabetically or by frequency
• Prerequisites enforced — you never meet a word before its kanji, or a sentence before its words
• Reading-aware — every kanji shows real word examples grouped by its on'yomi and kun'yomi, so readings click in context
• Writing practice — stroke animations and finger-trace for every kanji on the path
• Furigana modes — hiragana or romaji, switchable per reading
• Spaced repetition built in — reviews schedule themselves at intervals that adapt to your memory, so practice fits the time you have

SCAN TO LEARN

• Camera OCR, paste, or share from any app — any Japanese text becomes a lesson
• Tap any unknown kanji and Yomaru teaches it with real word examples, then the word, then the sentence
• Learn from what you actually encounter — a kanji you scan and then learn feeds back into your path and unlocks new vocabulary you can now read
• 315,000+ words and 10,000+ kanji preloaded — scan something obscure and Yomaru still knows it
• Place names, stations, company names, and character names annotated (530,000+ proper names)

READ DAILY

• Make Japanese reading part of your day — Yomaru's Read tab keeps a list of curated Japanese feeds, each tagged by reading level so you can pick what fits where you are
• Paste any article URL when you want to read something specific — your study path applies the same way it does to a curated feed
• Tap any kanji you don't know and learn it without leaving the article — what you read flows back into your study path
• Words you've already learned read clean; kanji you don't know yet get furigana — your study path decides what shows

BROWSE & SEARCH

• Library of JLPT N5–N1 kanji and vocabulary, browsable by level
• Search kanji by character, meaning, or on/kun readings; words by term, reading, or definition — in romaji, kana, or English
• Send anything to the Practice queue for later review

FREE & OFFLINE

Every kanji, word, and sentence lives on your device — camera OCR and translation run on-device too. Nothing you scan leaves your phone. Following web feeds and articles is the only feature that needs internet.

Whether you're prepping for the JLPT, following the Japanese you encounter in everyday life, or decoding a sign you photographed — Yomaru meets you where you are and teaches the Japanese you actually want to read.
