About this app

KeyDecoder app lets you use your smartphone or tablet to decode your mechanical keys in seconds.

Just place it on a ISO card (loyalty card, transportation ticket, Hotel room RFID card...), take a picture, and place your features on the picture. In less than one minute, you can decode your key.

This application is a true key decoder for standard keys, giving you a precision of 0.1mm or less depending on the quality of your pictures, the lighting, angle of view, and of course the precision of the ISO sized card you will use as a dimensional reference.

If you want to decode a key, this key decoding app is the best way, and it's free!

It is published under the Aladdin Free Public License, making it source-available, free to use, modify and distribute. You can find it on github for all details.

The main intended use of this app is for Pentesters doing Physical Intrusion tests with a legal contract.
If you want to avoid unwanted duplication of your keys, you should give them the same attention as passwords (which they are in a way), do not share them, do not leave them unattended.

Works great, if you know about locks. I have a good eye for decoding keys, so this isn't all that helpful to me. However, i see myself using this in the future for keys that aren't common. You do need to know what all those measurements mean, and if you aren't in the modern world, (ie if you are in North America) you will need to covert it to mil for any reference material to make sense. Otherwise, it has worked great for the test keys i have used. (would love to see in app conversations)

It works pretty well too take notes in the field especially if the key must stay with a client. However, the inability to delete projects is a major drawback. But it beats carrying callipers around.

I wish this app was based on the key blank, rather than using a credit card as a reference. .The app should have been designed to give you a choice of thousandths of an inch. Instructions should be more detailed as to which is spacing and depths. I tried using your app, after Snap Decoder failed to work with android 12's update. Keep developing and improving please.
