About this game

Afterplace is an adventurous indie game for mobile devices. It's a huge open world, full of hidden secrets, treasures, and creatures. You'll run around the woods, fight monsters, and talk to ostensibly shady characters! All from your pocket! Be warned though - you never know what the forest might be hiding. Not all trails are paved. Labyrinths and dungeons are tucked away in the most concealed nooks. There are no waypoints in Afterplace. You'll have to forge your own path.

Afterplace has been designed from the ground up to be a fast, fluid, beautiful experience for mobile. There are no virtual buttons. You can move and attack by touching anywhere. You can tap objects directly to interact or attack, or use two thumbs like a traditional controller. The game will adapt dynamically to your play style. Pick up and set down the game at your own pace, it will always save your progress. Afterplace is made to feel like a full-fledged indie adventure game that fits in your pocket.

Afterplace is made by one person, Evan Kice. A former software engineer from Austin TX, Evan quit his job (to the dismay of his friends and family) and has been working full time on Afterplace since early 2019. The initial game released in December of 2022, but Evan plans on continuing to support and polish the game when he can!

A true gem of a game. Smooth controls, charming pixel art and wonderfully strange enemies and environments, and a truly non linear open world filled with secret paths. It reminds me of playing NES Zelda games as a kid, where you could just go anywhere at any time, and you slowly learn how to navigate the world. A beautiful game well worth the price, and a solo indie dev nonetheless. (One bug to report: defeated the last boss, was endlessly floating and had to restart the app, but that fixed it!)

I bought this on a whim after hearing some chatter on Instagram about the game. I have been playing pretty much non stop since then - I am absolutely blown away!! I can't remember the last time a game got its claws into me like Afterplace has. It is at once nostalgic and fresh, cozy and creepy, simple and elegant. The controls are smooth and easy to manage, the graphics are charming, and the story is fantastic. More people need to play this game!

I've played this game 50 times in a row. The characters. The pacing - the coding. It's amazing you've done a wonderful job. My biggest problem is the length of it. Becoming somewhat experienced I can now just straight rush to the end. You've done a great job teaching the person how to play with out holding their hand. I also wish there was a new game plus instead of having to Uninstall and install the game to play again. Please make more. You also need better advertising.
