About this app

Fishing Points Compass is an app for fishing and navigation on the water. It helps you use depth maps, save fishing spots, record tracks and return to your chosen waypoints.

The app's key feature is support for georeferenced sonar imagery and bathymetric maps in KMZ format. Imported layers are overlaid on the base map, letting you compare bottom contours and underwater structures with your current GPS position.

Sonar imagery and KMZ maps

Import raster KMZ maps and vector KML data.
Display multiple imported layers.
Adjust opacity, brightness, contrast and saturation.
Zoom the map and rotate it to follow your direction of travel.
Control layer visibility.

Saved waypoints

Create waypoints from the map, your current position or fish finder data. Add a name, category and note. Sort waypoints, temporarily hide them, and import or export them in GPX/KML format. Select "Go to waypoint" to see the direction, distance and bearing to your destination.

Tracks

Record your route using your phone's GPS, pause recording and resume at any time. Recording can run in the background with a system notification. Name your tracks, choose their colors, display them on the map, save them and export them in GPX format.

Compass and map data

Calibrate the compass and view sensor accuracy and magnetic field readings. Display coordinates, speed, heading, depth, water temperature, distance, bearing and estimated time to your destination on the map.

Fish finder connectivity

An experimental connection over a local network using TCP/NMEA 0183 lets you receive available data from a compatible fish finder: coordinates, depth, water temperature and selected waypoints. Support depends on the device model and its settings.

Weather

The weather section shows air pressure, temperature, wind, cloud cover, precipitation probability and, where available, wave conditions. Weather data is provided by Open-Meteo.

Additional features

Interactive step-by-step help, customizable waypoint, track and information panel displays, a quick uncluttered map view, and local storage for waypoints, tracks, settings and imported layers. No account registration is required. An internet connection is needed to download new OpenStreetMap tiles and weather data.

Fishing Points Compass is not a certified navigation instrument. GPS, compass readings, weather forecasts and fish finder data may be inaccurate. Always use official navigation charts and heed weather warnings when on the water.
