About this app

The Japanese Holiday Calendar is a convenient and reliable calendar service that covers national holidays, traditional holidays, anniversaries, and more throughout Japan. We provide holiday information that is essential for understanding Japanese culture, history, and the rhythm of modern life in an easy-to-understand manner. It can be used in all situations, including business, education, travel, and daily life.

This calendar introduces not only holidays based on the National Holidays Act, but also traditional holidays and events in each region, as well as anniversaries and cultural events. From holidays that originate from nature, such as the Vernal Equinox Day and the Autumnal Equinox Day, to holidays with historical backgrounds, such as Constitution Memorial Day and National Foundation Day, we provide detailed explanations of the meaning and origin of each day, as well as how to celebrate them today.

In addition, for those who are interested in the origins of holidays, we also carefully describe the historical background and cultural episodes surrounding each holiday. For example, "Children's Day" originates from the ancient Chinese Boy's Festival, and in postwar Japan it was established as a day to celebrate the healthy growth of children. In this way, by learning the meaning behind each holiday, you can deepen your understanding of Japanese culture and values.

It is also packed with features, including:

Displays the dates and names of all holidays and festivals by month

Explains the differences and mechanisms between holidays, substitute holidays, and national holidays in an easy-to-understand manner

Also displays predicted dates for holidays that change from year to year (e.g. Vernal Equinox Day)

Customizable additions for local holidays and local events

Responsive design that is also compatible with smartphones and tablets

Syncs with Google Calendar and Outlook (coming soon)

Displays consecutive holidays (Golden Week, Silver Week, etc.) centered on holidays

English translation function for Japanese language learners (with English translations of holiday names)

We aim to be a useful tool for a wide range of users, including businessmen managing their schedules, travelers planning their itineraries, educational institutions creating class schedules, and foreigners living in Japan and Japanese language learners understanding the culture.

In addition to holidays, we will also introduce calendar elements unique to Japan, such as **seasonal events, the 24 solar terms, and the Rokuyo (Taian, Butsumetsu, etc.)**. For example, you can learn about annual events unique to Japan, such as Setsubun, Tanabata, and Obon, and their meanings.

Our goal is not just to provide a calendar, but to provide an information platform for people to learn more about and enjoy Japanese culture. Learning about history and traditions makes holidays more meaningful and brings small joys and learnings to your daily life.

We hope that the Japanese Holiday Calendar will help you plan your days better and enrich them. We hope you will use it not only to help you in your daily life, but also as an opportunity to experience the charm and depth of Japan.
