In the present social distancing context of pandemic, Federation of Nepal Cottage and Small Industry (FNCSI) District Chapter Banke in financial and technical support from CARE Nepal Response Appeal Fund and partnership with Bheri Batawaraniya Bisistata Samuha- Bee-Group Banke and local farmers' cooperatives, has introduced Krishi Path Mobile APP to support smallholders farmer by providing agriculture input and output information and facilitate for online trading of agricultural inputs and agro-products.
Through the use of 'Krishi Path" Application, farmers can obtain agriculture meteorological advisory service and localized information of crop calendar, farming technique for their desired variety of cereals, lentils, vegetable and fruit crops as well as livestock management services. In the same time they will be able to purchase required agriculture inputs such as seed, seedlings, fertilizers and equipment and get benefit from an online marketplace where they can sell their farm products at a reasonable price.
Agro-vet traders can use this app to upload agro-inputs likeseed, fertilizer and equipment themselves and announce online selling of those items to registered farmers whereas local traders of food, vegetable, fruits, flesh and diary are able to buy agriculture and livestock product of their choices through provision of this online marketplace from same mobile app. The App enables the local traders to buy agriculture and livestock products in a more convenient way and sell daily consumer items at a reasonable price.
It is expected that the use of this mobile app will help ensure regular supply of daily needs of food, vegetable, fruits and livestock items in the local market, control artificial price hike of consumable items and contribute to replace import from foreign countries to some extent. Meanwhile smallholder farmers will get a reasonable price of their product as it helps to reduce the cost of production and transportation of farmers' products and increase their bargaining power to get appropriate value of their product as they have the option to select the traders of their choice.
