About this app

Amber saves pages you open in its built-in browser to your device, with text, images, styles and fonts, to read offline. Embedded videos and comment sections aren't saved, and parts that run on scripts usually don't work.

Saving single pages is free, with no limit on count. Following links to save several pages is free up to 1 link away (pages linked directly from the opened one) and 10 pages per run; a one-time purchase extends it. No ads, no account, no developer server, no analytics SDK.

■ Free
• Save a page from Amber's browser (the address bar also searches, via DuckDuckGo) or via Share from another app. Images that load on scroll are included, though some may be missed
• Read offline. While a saved page is open, unsaved URLs aren't loaded; links open only to pages you've saved
• Follow links within the free limits. Failed pages and pages a site excludes in robots.txt count toward the 10. By default only pages in the opened page's folder or below are followed, so an article may yield just one page. Saving continues with a notification after you close the app where possible; pause or stop anytime
• Full-text search (Japanese from two characters, English by whole words only), folders, unread filter, dark theme
• Check if a saved page's original changed, without re-saving it. Pages saved before 0.3.5 or by following links compare from their first check; some sites can't be checked
• Export a page as one HTML file other browsers can open, as your own copy. A ZIP of everything is possible, but it uses Amber's own format and can't be imported back

■ One-time purchase
Not a subscription; the price is shown in Google Play. It returns on a new device with the same Google account (saved pages may not move).
• Follow any number of links, or the whole site (stops at the page limit)
• Up to 5,000 pages per run (default 1,000)
• Save speeds Fast and Fastest. They only save time when a site sets a Crawl-delay, or by retrying failed files less (so more may be missing); otherwise speed barely changes
• Site updates: add pages newly linked from the start page or the last 2 saved pages. Others aren't found, changes to pages you have aren't picked up, and script-built links may not work

■ Following links: robots.txt and speed
• Places a site disallows in robots.txt are not crawled, even with the purchase or at Fastest
• One site and one page at a time; the next page starts after the previous one is saved
• Each page's files are fetched again for saving (up to 6 at once; reused within a run)
• Between pages, Crawl-delay is followed up to 10 s on Reliable (default; the only one on free), 1 s on Fast, not at all on Fastest, where sites may refuse requests. Files within a page don't wait
• If robots.txt can't be read (server or network error), Amber stays out of that site
robots.txt applies to automatic collection, not to a single page you choose to save.
Amber saves what its browser can display, for you to read again. It doesn't unlock login-only or paywalled content. Saving, browsing and update checks go online to the site (and services it loads), web searches to DuckDuckGo, purchases to Google Play.

■ Limits
• Iframe content (embedded videos, maps, social posts, comments) isn't saved and shows blank. No video saving feature
• Scripts are removed: pages rarely open blank, but tabs, menus and slideshows usually don't work, and notices shown at save time may stay
• Styles added by scripts, and canvas or Shadow DOM content, may look broken or be missing
• Files are fetched again when saving, so images from sites that refuse automated requests, and files over 20 MB (100 MB per page), may be missing
• No PDF or file downloads
• Logins from other browsers aren't shared; shared URLs reopen in Amber's browser
• Uninstalling deletes saved pages, and moving them to a new device isn't guaranteed. Export pages as HTML to keep them
• Screens are in English and Japanese. Other device languages get English (or Japanese if it's listed before English)
Save web pages with images and fonts to read offline. Full-text search. No ads.

What’s new

• Typing words in the address bar now searches DuckDuckGo instead of showing an error.
• "Check for updates" no longer always fails. Single pages saved from now on are compared with the saved version where possible; others from their first check. Some sites can't be checked.
• Sites whose robots.txt can't be read (server or network error) are no longer crawled.
• Other device languages now get English (or Japanese if it's listed before English).
• Fixed English wording and plural forms.
