About this app

What started as a simple idea has grown into a multilingual learning tool — and it’s completely free (with minimal ads to support development). I continue to improve the system, and I would like to have your feedback.

When I first started learning English, my teacher encouraged me to keep a rubrica — a notebook where I’d write new words, their translations, and review them regularly. I loved the method, but I’ve always preferred digital tools over paper. So I built one.

The mobile app allows users to create collections of words for a specific topic, called dictionaries. It is possible to create a dictionary for every language, but the supported languages are: English, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, German and French. A supported language means there are specific functionalities such as articles, translations and studying verbs. In every dictionary, words can be added, but also links to external documents, like videos or websites, some reading suggestions and a lot of games. The games help the users to learn the words. Users can share their dictionary with other people, and the dictionary store is free.

The website and the app are working together. On the website, I'm collecting articles in different languages for different language levels. The most important words in the article have translations in other languages. If a user wants to learn a word, he or she can click on the link that redirects to the app to add the word to a dictionary in the default dictionary.

What LanguageInUse offers:
- Create word collections called dictionaries
- Support for English, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, German, and French
- Smart features like articles, verb conjugation, and translations
- Add links to videos, websites, and reading suggestions
- Play games to reinforce vocabulary
- Share your dictionaries with others

The app and website work hand in hand. On the site, I curate articles in multiple languages and levels. Key words are translated, and with one click, learners can add them directly to their app dictionaries.

LanguageInUse was born from my own experience as a language learner. I know how hard — and how rewarding — it can be. This app is my way of giving back: making language learning more accessible, engaging, and fun for anyone, anywhere.

If you're a language learner, teacher, or just curious, give it a try. And if you know someone who might benefit, feel free to share.
