The attic insulation certificate gets signed in the attic, not typed up in the truck.
Pin the attic, measure depth at every pin before you blow and again after, photograph the gauge each time, and hand over a signed file before you climb down. Bag calculator, depth log and rebate photo pack in one place, in the order a reviewer reads them.
NUMBERED POINTS, NOT A GUESS
Trace the attic outline with a finger, mark the chimney, bath fan and can lights, then drop pins. Every pin holds a BEFORE and an AFTER depth and carries its own colour — grey nothing yet, amber before only, green both, red under target — so one look from the hatch shows what is missing. One point per 200 square feet, never fewer than five.
A CAMERA FOR A RULER IN A DARK ATTIC
Flash on by default, a guide line for the ruler, a tilt read-out that turns green under four degrees. You type the depth; the app never reads a number off a picture. Every frame is branded in the pixels with point number, phase, depth, date, time and GPS; the original is stored beside it, EXIF intact, with a SHA-256 in manifest.csv. Hold the phone over a bag label and text recognition pulls the lot number, R-value and coverage.
BLOWN-IN MATH THAT RUNS ON YOUR OWN BAG
Type your product in once from the bag in your hands: R per inch, bag weight, then a coverage row per target R with square feet per bag, initial and settled thickness. No chart is bundled: the one your job is measured against is printed on your own material. Out of it: existing R, R to add, target depth, R achieved at every point, and the bag count your chart calls for. Bags calculated against bags used prints as a variance percentage and an installed density.

Federal labelling rules tell an installer to leave a dated, signed receipt showing, for loose-fill, coverage area, initial installed thickness, minimum settled thickness, R-value and bags used. The model energy code wants a signed certification with those fields plus settled R-value and installed density, and depth markers left in the attic. Utility and state programs call the page a certificate of completion, an insulation certificate or an installation report, ask for geotagged photographs, and inspect a share of files. Read your own program manual and code edition — nothing here decides if a file is accepted.
