Does your mother or father sometimes leave home without their keys, or forget to turn off the gas? LeaveCheck reminds them to check, right as they walk out of the door.
You set it up once on their phone, at home: mark the home Wi-Fi and choose what to check. After that there is nothing to start or press. When they walk out and the phone loses the home Wi-Fi, it gives a Reminder and repeats it until they answer.
HOW THE CHECK WORKS
Tapping the Reminder asks one thing at a time, with big pictures and big buttons: "Keys?" – Yes. "Wallet?" – Yes. "Gas off?" – Yes. When everything is checked, the Reminder stops. "No, go back" shows home on the map.
WHAT IT DOES
• Notices leaving home from the home Wi-Fi, walking and location
• Asks about each thing you choose: keys, wallet, phone, glasses, gas, door, or your own
• Plays your own recorded voice or a tone, with vibration
• A router restart while they sit at home gives no Reminder
• "I forgot something" opens home in the phone's map app
• Warns when something stops it working, such as location being off or a low battery
• Simple, large screens made for older people
WHAT IT CAN'T DO
• It can't tell whether something was left behind. It asks them to check, every time.
• It can't notice leaving if the phone stays at home or isn't connected to the home Wi-Fi.
• It can't guarantee that nothing will be forgotten.
• Reminders can come late or be missed if the phone restricts background work.
YOUR PRIVACY
LeaveCheck uses location all the time, including in the background, to notice when they leave home. It reads the name of the Wi-Fi network the phone is connected to. Both stay on the phone. There is no account and no server. Location is shared only when they choose to open directions in the map app.
