LeaveSafe is an alarm for the device you walk away from — and the thing that raises the alarm is another device you own. Your phone watches your laptop. Your laptop watches your phone. One phone watches another. The link is one-way and you choose which way it points.
A café and your order is ready. A shared office and your desk is in another room. A phone charging by the wall while you sit three tables away. The moments you have to leave something are short, and nothing is stolen slowly.
WHICH WAY ROUND
• Your phone watches your laptop — the usual one. You get up, the laptop stays armed on the table.
• Your laptop watches your phone — the phone is charging across the room and you are not next to it.
• A phone watches a phone — two of your own, or a friend's watching yours for an hour.
Every pairing is one-way, made by a code you hand over, and either end can break it.
WHAT IS ACTUALLY WATCHED
On a computer, six sensors on the machine itself: the charger, the lid, USB, the screen, the network and the keys. If one of them stops agreeing with the reading it took when you armed, the machine sounds its own siren and the watching device is told.
On a phone, one: its charging cable. Unplug an armed phone and it raises the alarm on itself and reaches whoever is watching it.
HOW IT WORKS
LeaveSafe is two halves. The watcher on a computer is free, open source under Apache 2.0, and you can read every line of it — it runs entirely on your own machine and talks to no server. This app is the other half: the device that hears about it, and a device that can be watched in its own right.

WHAT AN ACCOUNT ADDS
• The alert reaches you on any network. Mobile data, another wi-fi, another building, another city — not only while both devices are on the same wi-fi.
• Every machine on one list. Named, with what it last reported and when it was last seen. Up to ten of them, any one signed out from wherever you are standing.
• Hand someone a code. A QR code good for an hour, a day, a week, or until you take it back. They see whether the machine is still armed and they get the alarm — and nothing else. Not your account, not your other machines.
• Push notifications, so the alarm reaches you with the app closed.
AN ACCOUNT WITH NO E-MAIL
An account is a sixteen-digit key. No e-mail address, no password, no name, no telephone number. There is nothing to recover it to, which is the point: we hold a hash of the key, never the key.
The app asks for no camera, no location, no microphone, no contacts and no files, because it needs none of them. A permission that is never requested cannot be misused.
TIME, NOT A SUBSCRIPTION
Fourteen days free when you register, once per device.
After that, time is bought in packs of days — 30, 90 or 365 — added to the account. Nothing renews itself, no card is stored, and there is nothing to cancel: you stop adding time. Buying a pack while your account still has time extends it. The price is shown in the store, in your own currency.
The open-source watcher keeps working on your own wi-fi whether or not an account is paid. Nothing is taken away from it to make room for this.
