You look up a word while reading. The sentence makes sense. You keep going.
Two weeks later you meet the same word again — and remember nothing.
Lexoteca fixes the part that's broken: nothing keeps the word after you look it up.
HOW IT WORKS
Point your camera at any text — a page of a book, a restaurant menu, a street sign, or a screenshot of subtitles. The text is recognised on your device and every word becomes tappable.
Tap the words you don't know and carry on reading. That's it — about three seconds, no typing, no forms.
Each word is saved with the sentence you found it in and a photo of exactly where you found it. Later, the app brings it back for review, timed to arrive just before you'd forget.
PRACTISE WITH YOUR OWN SENTENCES
Most vocabulary apps quiz you with generic examples written for nobody in particular.
Lexoteca uses the sentence you actually encountered. Fill the gap in the line from your own book. Recognise the word from a photo of the page you were reading. The context you learned it in is the context you practise in — which is exactly how memory works best.
Exercise types adapt as you improve: multiple choice while a word is new, then fill-in-the-blank, then typing it from memory, then writing your own sentence with it.
WATCH YOUR MEMORY COME INTO FOCUS
Every saved word carries a photo of where you found it, and it starts out blurred.
As you learn the word, the photo sharpens — but only when the memory has genuinely become more durable, not because you guessed right once. Neglect a word and it drifts gently back out of focus.
Your collection becomes an honest picture of what you know, and what you only think you know.
BUILT ON PROVEN SCHEDULING
Reviews are scheduled by FSRS, a modern spaced-repetition algorithm that models how memory decays and shows you each word at the moment repetition does the most good. Fewer reviews, better retention.
Sessions take three to five minutes. When nothing is due, you're done — the app won't invent busywork, because reviewing early doesn't help you remember.
TRACK A WHOLE BOOK
Group words by where they came from. Keep scanning the same novel and Lexoteca tells you roughly what share of its vocabulary you've got — and how much further to comfortable reading.
WHAT IT ISN'T
This isn't a language course. There's no curriculum, no lessons, no grammar teaching, and it won't get you started in a language from zero.
It's built for people already reading, watching or living in a language and running into words they don't know. If that's you, nothing else quite fits. If it isn't yet, come back when it is.
YOUR PHOTOS STAY YOURS
Text recognition happens on your device. Your photos are stored for you — not mined, not sold, not used for advertising.
