About this app

Process Killer is a tool developed by Livefront for developers and QA teams to facilitate testing saved state issues. Going beyond the standard "Don't Keep Activities" form of testing, Process Killer allows you to actually test how well apps restore their state after the system kills their host process. Applications with recent activity are displayed in a list; clicking on any of those items kills their host process (if they are currently running) in the same way the system would when reclaiming memory. The app can then be restarted from the link in the Snackbar or navigated to via the home screen or recent list of apps.

This is an open-source project found at https://github.com/livefront/process-killer-android. Code contributions are always welcome.

Works, but takes too long. I have a very advanced phone with over 4,300 apps so perhaps this would work fine for someone with many fewer apps. My phone takes 4 1/2 hrs. to check all my apps so it can kill the active ones. It does ventually kill my apps., but during the time it is checking for active apps to kill my phone is completely unusable which is not helpful should an emergency or critical situation occur. Again my situation is not typical. Thus my 5 star rating.

Thanks for your interest, Chris. You can "kill" each app simply by clicking on their entry in the list. This is tool meant for developers and testers and is not meant to be used for general app management. It will kill apps in a way that allows them to be restored by the OS and so they will still appear to be running as part of your "recents" list.
