The Institute for Economic and Social Research, Education and Information (LP3ES) was founded on 19 August 1971, known as one of the NGOs in Indonesia, LP3ES operates in the fields of research, empowerment, political, economic, social education and publishing.
Since 1972, LP3ES has published a monthly social and economic journal, Prisma, which has been read by academics, students, government officials, political figures and other strategic groups.
The thoughts and analysis presented through the Prisma journal have in many cases been used as a reference for decision makers and development planners in Indonesia as well as being read by intellectuals and university teachers.
In the field of publishing, since its inception, LP3ES has also published dozens of textbooks and general readings for students and tertiary institutions, some of which have been used as mandatory reading material at various faculties and universities and other higher education institutions.
As an NGO that operates in the field of research, LP3ES is mostly involved in research, policy studies and action research, especially those related to the interests of grass-root communities. Starting from research on the informal sector, cooperatives, small industries and people's crafts, traditional educational institutions such as Islamic boarding schools, non-formal education, farmer participation, maternal and child health, the environment, studies on the relationship between society and the state and so on.
