The mobile application "What is this word?" is a speech therapy game for children to differentiate the consonant sounds of the Russian language by ear. It involves listening to metagram words that differ in pairs of phonemes that sound similar and with which the most difficulties arise during the initial stages of language acquisition, as well as with speech or hearing disorders. The application has two modes: learning and playing.
In learn mode, the child simply explores words sorted by groups of similar phonemes or all at once, independently switching between them, with the possibility of slow playback.
In game mode, you select a pair of phonemes (one, several, or all at once), and the child takes turns listening to words from the list, and then by ear selects one of the two similar-sounding words in a pair.
If all words in game mode are answered correctly, they are marked as learned. Learned pairs of words can be RESET in the settings so they are available for choice again. In the settings, you can also choose whether you need voiceover, sound effects, and background music.
The application is available in two languages - Russian and English (only the interface, without voiceover), thus it is suitable for foreigners studying the phonetics of the Russian language.
