An Android smartphone as a baby monitor app– by phone call or with live audio and optional live video.

Baby Calling is a baby monitor for Android with two simple modes:

1. Call mode
An Android smartphone is placed near the baby. When Baby Calling detects selected sounds, the device calls a predefined phone number. The phone receiving the call does not need the app.

2. Live baby monitor mode
Two Android devices with Baby Calling connect to each other on the same local Wi-Fi network: a baby device in the nursery and a parent device nearby. Live audio and optional live video are then available.

This allows an old Android phone to be reused in a meaningful way – at home, while travelling or at the grandparents’ house.

Privacy at the core

Baby Calling does not require a user account. Sound detection runs locally on the baby device. In live baby monitor mode, audio and video run directly between the paired devices on the local Wi-Fi network.

In call mode, Baby Calling uses the normal phone function of the baby device to call a predefined phone number.

Important notes

Live baby monitor mode requires two Android devices on the same local Wi-Fi network.

Call mode requires an Android device with phone functionality and a phone number that should be called when sounds are detected.

Baby Calling is a technical aid for parents and caregivers. It is not a medical device, not an emergency call system, not a professional monitoring system and not a replacement for adult supervision.

Sound detection, notifications, phone calls, live audio and live video may fail, be delayed or be missed. Functionality may depend on the device, battery level, power-saving mode, network connection, Android version, permissions, volume, notification settings and ambient noise, among other factors.

Baby Calling should be carefully tested on the devices used and in the respective environment before use. Functionality should also be checked regularly during use.
