Some children decide early that they are bad at math. Math Empire is a math game for kids who feel that way - a cozy 3D math adventure where the math is the work, not the quiz.
Your child washes up on an island with nothing and builds it back. The math is how.
Math games for kids of age 8 to 10 and 10 to 12, plus a Study Room from grade 1 to grade 12. Free to play. Kids math games with no violence, and no punishment for a wrong answer.
THE VOYAGE - THE ISLAND ADVENTURE
A wrecked ship on the sand, a cold fire, an old man glad to see you. From there your child chops, mines, fishes, forages, crafts and builds - and every one of those verbs is made of math.
Counting is how the logs get stacked. Sharing out is how the firewood gets split. Multiplication is how the garden gets planted in rows.
Nobody sits your child down and tests them. The question arrives inside work they already wanted to do, and they can see it coming: the button turns gold and grows a question mark before it is ever pressed. For a child who has learned to brace, that is everything.
Get it right and the world moves. The spruce falls. The wall goes up.
Get it wrong and nothing is taken away. The picture of the problem comes back, the mentor names the thinking that went sideways, and your child tries again.
A MATH ISLAND WORTH WALKING ACROSS
135 things to find: berry brambles, driftwood, shells and standing stones. Fifteen are waymarks that pay a legend and never ask a question. Walking is never taxed.
Neighbors who move into the houses your child builds, three heroes out of the old Russian byliny, and a talking horse called Grom who would rather you counted his carrots.
Coins your math earns spend at the pedlar's cart: timber, stone and rope for the next build. Buying more at once costs less each.
Then they build a ship: five stages, paid for in timber and in math they can show. Take the helm, and the shore they made goes over the horizon.
Twelve islands, grade 1 to 12. Island one is counting logs on a beach. Island twelve is rates of change.
THE STUDY ROOM - PRACTICE, STRAIGHT
The other half: 29 practice modes across 12 worlds. Counting, addition, subtraction, times tables, division, fractions, decimals, percent, ratios, statistics, algebra, area, angles, roots, negatives, graphing, exponents, logarithms and trigonometry.
Multiplication and division games for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders; fractions and algebra practice for grade 6 and up. Pick a grade - 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, on to 12, or Adult - and it opens there.
Both halves share one learner profile: practice multiplication here and the island already knows.
HOW IT TEACHES
Show, then try, then do. The mentor demonstrates with objects your child can count, then they practice with the picture on screen, then without it.
Facts your child stumbles on come back sooner; facts they own come back later, so nothing is quietly forgotten. Nothing is ever asked that has not been taught first; that rule is in the code.
FOR PARENTS AND TEACHERS
- Players under 13 are shown no advertising of any kind - not a banner, not a video, not the offer of one. Google's advertising software is never started for them, and they are never asked for an email. An anonymous Player Code carries progress across devices.
- No chat, no messaging, no profiles, no way for a stranger to reach your child.
- No timer on any question on the island. Its hunger and thirst meters are slow - about 45 minutes before food is a thought - and pause while the game is talking.
- Plays offline. The Study Room and the first island need no connection - no wifi, no internet - and later islands fetch their scenery once, about 36 MB.
- Every topic and every island is free. Optional in-app purchases add coins, and an upgrade that removes ads for players 13 and up.
