About this app

With the new DSW21 app, your mobility is looking great. Timetable information, ticket purchases, traffic updates, and more are clearly organized in our public transport app for Dortmund and beyond.

All key features at a glance

Timetable information:
Find your connection — whether in Dortmund, within the VRR, or beyond the transport network boundaries.

Departure monitor:
Want to know which lines serve a specific stop? The departure monitor shows you all departure times.

Traffic updates:
If things don’t go according to plan, we keep you informed with traffic notices about delays, construction work, and other disruptions.

Ticket purchases and subscription management:
You can easily buy the right ticket in the app, take out subscriptions, and manage them. You can pay for your online ticket for bus and rail in three ways: PayPal, credit card, or direct debit.

Eezy-ride (Check-in / Check-out)
Our app offers a travel service in which users explicitly start and end a journey via a check-in / check-out action.
When the user taps “Check in now”, the app immediately starts a location foreground service (FOREGROUND_SERVICE_TYPE_LOCATION). This service continuously tracks the user’s GPS location for the entire duration of the active journey in order to accurately measure travel time and distance, calculate the correct fare in real time, and prevent interruptions in location tracking when the app is minimized, the screen is locked, or the app is running in the background.

A foreground service is required because background-only location access cannot guarantee uninterrupted, high-frequency location tracking during an active journey, which would lead to incorrect fare calculation. While a journey is active, the app displays a persistent foreground service notification that clearly informs the user that location tracking is active.

The user can end the journey at any time by tapping “Check out now.” At that moment, the foreground service is immediately stopped and location tracking ends. The location foreground service is used exclusively during a journey actively started by the user and is never used outside this context.
