Mindhall is a notes app built around the oldest memory technique we know: the memory palace, also called the method of loci. You write notes, place them in rooms of a place you know, and walk through it to remember. Spaced repetition brings each note back just before you would forget it.
YOUR FIRST PALACE IN THREE MINUTES
Pick five places in your home, picture one thing at each, take a short break, then walk the route forward and backward. Most people remember all five both ways. It is the same method Simonides of Ceos used 2,500 years ago.
NOTES THAT LINK TO EACH OTHER
• Write linked notes with [[links]] and #tags; backlinks and unlinked mentions appear on their own.
• A context panel shows what each note touches: its links, the notes around the same place, the same tags and the cards made from it.
• Graph view of one note or your whole hall.
• Templates for study notes, vocabulary and talks. Autosave, pinning, a 30-day trash.
PALACES DRAWN AS FLOOR PLANS
• Start from a template: home, route, body, car, school, workplace, building, or a blank plan.
• Add rooms and places; Mindhall draws the plan with your walking route and numbered places.
• Put a note on a place and describe a vivid scene: exaggerate it, make it move, add a smell or a sound.
• Tour walks, recall walks, and reverse walks to test yourself.
CARDS FROM YOUR OWN NOTES
Write ==hidden word== or question :: answer inside any note and it becomes a flashcard. Reviews are scheduled with FSRS, a modern spaced repetition algorithm, at a target recall you choose. Places in your palaces become cards too.
A COURSE IN MEMORY TECHNIQUES
Ten wings, forty short lessons with exercises you actually do, not just read:
• how memory works, vivid imagery, the link and story methods
• the memory palace from first walk to many palaces
• peg systems and the Major system for numbers
• names and faces, foreign words with the keyword method
• talks, speeches and study notes for exams
• spacing and retrieval practice so it lasts
Challenges include π to 100 decimals, a full deck of cards and 15 names and faces.
A DAILY RHYTHM THAT STAYS SMALL
Today shows what is due: a few cards, the next lesson, a palace walk. Finish and the day gets its seal. Streak freezes or a 5-of-7-days goal keep it humane. The ledger keeps your seals, recall rate and milestones.
