About this app
Minibits is an Ecash and Lightning wallet with a focus on performance and usability. Ecash is a bearer token issued by custodians known as mints.
Why Minibits?
Minibits' aim is to research how Lightning and eCash can be integrated into a seamless and instant experience that can work at scale and still provide good privacy.

Payments hightlights:
Minibits enables to move Ecash for free and instantly, with special focus to work with the Lightning payments and Nostr social network.
- Get Lightning address to which the wallet can receive or send both Lightning and Ecash payments
- Add your address to your Nostr social profile to receive zaps directly to the wallet
- Zap (tip) your follows on Nostr network in a single tap
- Multiple other payment scenarios: QR codes, LNURL pay and withdraw, instant send encrypted Ecash over Nostr
- Keep private contact list of wallet addresses of your peers.
- Topup from or cash out to any Lightning wallet instantly
- Proof of concept for offline Ecash send and receive
Security:
- Seed based backup and recovery of Ecash and Lightning address in case of device loss
- Local append-only backup to keep Ecash extra safe from storage failures
- Storage of keys and seed in secure Android keystore
- Optional Ecash storage encryption and biometric authentication
- Retry transaction after recoverable errors
If you are using this app, please do not forget:
- Both the Cashu protocol and the Minibits wallet are still experimental, and by using them, you accept known and unknown risks.
- Mints are, by design, custodial services. Run your own or use them only for research and testing purposes.
- Ecash is stored on your device, so the loss of the device means the loss of coins. Make sure to keep your seed backup safe.
- Minibits provides its own mint that you can use for testing purposes with small amounts. It is operated on a best-effort basis and without any guarantees.
