The Geological Survey of Bangladesh (GSB) is a Government organization
under the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources that conducts
geological research in Bangladesh. The department consists of different
geological and earth science branches. Among the branches, stratigraphy and
biostratigraphy branch is one of the important branch of the GSB. This branch
conducts research on stratigraphic taxonomy using stratigraphic and
biostratigraphical tools. Detailed Palaeontological research is being conducted
in this branch. Palynological and foraminiferal studies are significant part in
palaeontological study.
Floras of Holocene time were almost similar to the modern herbs, shrubs and
trees. It is one of the prime targets to develop a standard “live pollen” and
“fossil pollen” catalogue to reveal the ancient/Holocene period. The research
helps scientist to identify the ancient palynological zone as well as
palaeoenvironment. A small "Pollen Catalogue" is currently being prepared
each year as part of a supporting program. Goal of this program is to prepare a
detail pollen catalogue. At the same time, work is underway to prepare a
& catalogue & with samples of identified foraminifera. These two catalogues play
vital role in teaching and research of stratigraphy and biostratigraphy,
archeology, hydrocarbon for researchers, academicians and students.
This app tries to incorporate all the identified data of Palynological and
foraminiferal studies. It will be regularly updated as it is a dynamic app.
