About this app

Witnessed records what is happening to you and gets it off your phone before anyone can take it.

Start recording and a countdown starts with it. Cancel it when you are safe and nothing happens. Don't cancel, and your trusted contacts get the video, your last known location, and a link to view it all.

ANTI-TRUST BY DESIGN
Witnessed is built for people who do not trust ICE or the police to preserve evidence of what they did. You should not have to. Hand over an unlocked phone and the footage can be deleted in front of you. Let an agent hold it and you may never see it again. A phone in someone else's hands is not evidence anymore.

So Witnessed does not leave it there. Your video uploads continuously while you are still filming. If your phone is seized during a raid or a stop, or smashed, or it just dies in your pocket, what you already recorded is not on it anymore. It is already with the people you trust. Nobody has to give it back to you.

The people most likely to need proof of what happened are the least likely to be believed without it. That is who this is for.

HOW IT WORKS
• Open Witnessed and start recording the moment something feels wrong.
• A countdown is armed. If you are safe, cancel it. Nobody is alerted.
• If you cannot cancel, your emergency contacts get your recording, your location, and a link to a private alert page.
• They can see what happened and where you were, then come find you or call for help.

WHAT IT CAPTURES
• Video and audio, not a silent SOS ping.
• Front or back camera, and you can flip mid recording.
• Your last known location, sent with the alert.
• Alerts by push, email and SMS, so they are hard to miss.
• Your contacts get the message in their own language.

DISCREET BY DESIGN
• A decoy PIN. Type it and the app looks like you shut everything down. The alert goes out anyway.
• Response confirmations are off by default, so nothing lights up your screen to give you away.
• An ordinary looking app that does not announce what it does.

PRIVACY
• Your PINs are stored as one way hashes. We cannot read them.
• We do not sell your data and we do not use it for ads.
• Recordings go to the contacts you picked, nobody else.
• Delete your account and everything in it from inside the app.

GUARDIAN (OPTIONAL SUBSCRIPTION)
• More emergency contacts.
• Keep your recordings instead of letting them expire.
• Voice call alerts, for contacts who never check their messages.
Guardian is billed through Google Play and renews until you cancel. Manage or cancel anytime in your Google Play account.

WHO IT IS FOR
People filming ICE raids, traffic stops and arrests. Students and night shift workers. People who commute alone or meet strangers. Anyone who has ever texted a friend "text me when you get home". Witnessed sends that text for you when you cannot send it yourself.

IMPORTANT
Witnessed is not an emergency service. It does not contact police, ambulance, or any public emergency service. It is not a substitute for your local emergency number such as 911, 112 or 999. It needs a working device, a network connection, and contacts who choose to respond, so delivery cannot be guaranteed. In a real emergency, call official emergency services.
