The Climate Menu shows the climate footprint of a restaurant's menu — before you sit down.
Every restaurant on the map gets two independent scores:
MENU CLIMATE INDEX (MCI) — a grade from A to E based on the mean kg of CO2e per main course, using published global emission-factor research (Poore & Nemecek, 2018, Science). Two rules stop a menu from buying a good grade with token salads while the steaks stay put: any beef or lamb on the menu caps the grade at C, and having no plant-based main at all caps it at D.
CHOICE ARCHITECTURE (0–5) — independent of what's on the menu, this scores how it's laid out: is a plant-based main easy to find, or buried at the bottom of a "vegetarian" ghetto section?
WHAT YOU CAN DO • Browse restaurants on a map or a filterable list, sorted by footprint • Tap any restaurant for its full score breakdown, dish by dish, with the reasoning behind each choice-architecture check • Search any address or city to explore a new area • See the original menu photo/PDF a score was based on • Suggest a restaurant that should be added, or flag a correction on one already on the map
WHAT THIS ISN'T This is an independent estimate from a published menu — not a certification, not a health or recipe-level audit. It's precise enough to separate a steak from a dhal by an order of magnitude; it can't reliably rank two similar dishes against each other.
