About this app

MaxNotes is a notes app with an AI that actually reads your notes — and never
sends them to anyone else's cloud.

Write notes, then ask questions about them, get summaries, and turn them into
study flashcards. The AI runs either on your own phone or on a computer you
own. There is no MaxNotes account, no server of ours in the middle, and no
telemetry.

WRITE AND ORGANIZE

• Fast, distraction-free plain-text and Markdown notes
• Optional folders, with instant full-text search
• Sort by last edited, date, title or size, and see at a glance which notes
aren't filed anywhere
• Import text, Markdown and PDF files; export everything as files whenever you
want — your notes are never locked in
• Back up everything — notes, folders, summaries and flashcards — to one file
• Pick your reading font, and a two-pane layout on tablets and foldables

ASK YOUR NOTES

• Ask a question across every note and get an answer drawn from the most
relevant ones, with the source notes named
• Or open a single note and ask about just that one
• Follow-up questions keep the thread
• Search understands meaning, not just keywords, so you can find the note about
the plumber's quote without remembering the word "quote"

STUDY MODE

• Turn any note, several notes, a folder, or several folders into flashcards
• Review with flip cards, and rate how well you knew each answer
• Spaced repetition: cards you find easy come back weeks later, ones you keep
missing come back tomorrow — so revision time goes where it is needed
• Each saved group shows how many cards are due, so you know when to come back
• Save a selection as a study group and return to it any time; groups that
point at a folder pick up new notes automatically

SUMMARIES

• One tap turns a long note into a few sentences
• Summaries are kept with the note, so you can reopen one without regenerating

YOUR CHOICE OF AI

Two ways to run it, and you pick in Settings:

• Your own server — point MaxNotes at Ollama, LM Studio, llama.cpp or any
OpenAI-compatible server on your desktop. Bigger, faster models, and the
phone spends no storage or battery on it. Recommended if you have a computer
you can leave running.

• On your phone — download a model and everything works completely offline,
including on a plane. Slower, and needs about 1-2 GB of space.

Either way your notes stay on your device. Only your question and the matching
excerpts are ever sent, and only to the server you configured yourself.

PRIVACY

• No account, no sign-up, no MaxNotes cloud
• No analytics or tracking
• No ads
• Notes are stored on your device, and you can export them as plain files at
any time

MaxNotes is for people who want their notes to stay theirs.
Notes with a private AI. Ask, summarize and make flashcards — nothing uploaded.

What’s new

• New here? A short walkthrough covers notes, chat, study mode, AI setup and backup — skip it, or replay it anytime from Settings' FAQ button.
• Settings reorganized: server address, on-device model, and appearance now live on their own screens.
• A new sample note walks through setting up your own AI server, step by step.
• Chat now says "Model not set up" instead of naming a model you haven't downloaded yet.
