About this app

Decoded is a comprehensive medical terminology study app built for nursing students, pre-med students, allied health professionals, and anyone preparing for medical exams. The app works entirely offline, so you can study anywhere without an internet connection.

The library includes over 500 medical terms organized across 12 body systems: Cardiovascular, Respiratory, Digestive, Nervous, Musculoskeletal, Integumentary, Urinary, Reproductive, Endocrine, Lymphatic and Immune, Special Senses, and General. Each term includes a clear definition, phonetic pronunciation guide, clinical usage example, and a detailed word breakdown showing the prefix, root, and suffix with their individual meanings and language origins. Understanding the building blocks of medical words helps you decode unfamiliar terms on sight, rather than memorizing definitions one by one.

Study with interactive flashcards that feature a tap-to-flip card design with swipe gestures. Swipe right for terms you know, swipe left for terms you need to review. Flashcards can be filtered by body system and shuffled for variety. Your study time is tracked automatically so you can see how much time you have invested.

Test your knowledge with two quiz modes. Multiple Choice presents a question with four answer options and works in both directions — given a term, choose the definition, or given a definition, choose the correct term. Spelling Challenge shows you a definition and asks you to type the correct medical term, with a hint system and tolerance for minor typos on longer words. Both quiz types track your score and save your results to a history log so you can monitor improvement over time.

The app also includes over 300 medical abbreviations commonly used in clinical documentation, with a dedicated section highlighting the ISMP "Do Not Use" abbreviation list. Each dangerous abbreviation includes an explanation of why it poses a risk for medication errors and what safe alternative should be written instead.

In addition, there are over 400 word parts — prefixes, roots, suffixes, and combining forms — that you can browse and search independently. Understanding these building blocks is the foundation of medical terminology mastery.

Your learning progress is tracked with a mastery system. Terms move from New to Learning to Mastered based on your quiz and flashcard performance. The progress screen shows your overall mastery percentage, study streak, total quizzes taken, average quiz score, and accumulated study time.

The free version gives you access to three body systems (Cardiovascular, Respiratory, and Digestive) with a daily limit of 10 flashcard sessions and 3 quizzes. Upgrade to Premium to unlock all 12 body systems, remove all daily limits, and access the full abbreviation safety list.

Premium options:
