About this app

Turn your phone or tablet into the "USS Android" (or the "RMS Android" for our
British friends). This app will ring a ship's bell from 1 to 8 times during each
4-hour watch. It's still used today on most modern naval military vessels.

* It will ring correctly for both normal 4-hour Watches and 2-hour Dog Watches.
* It will display the time in either military 24-hour or civilian 12-hour time.
* It will allow you to silence the bell between the times you set for Taps and Reveille.
* It even gives you the ability to silence the bell for Sunday Holy Services.
* It can run in the background so you can use your device normally while it rings the time.

Use it to keep track of the time. (Only you will know that those 5 bells means it's 2:30.)
Use it to keep your crew efficient and on their toes.
If you're a former Bluejacket, use it as a reminder of friends and times past.
Or, just use it for fun as you walk around all day ringing like a battleship.

This may be a nice addition to your Android device. I hope you give it a try.

I wanted it to work. but under setting, I can only see the top of set time Sunday services. i can't see the drop down box. only enough of the words to understand what they say about Sunday services. no box does not expand, not move. no setting for 24hr time. frustration. I don't recommend this app, especially if you need to set known quiet time. you can only set taps to reveille. but be fair. over the years there have been other ships bell apps. they didn't work either and I had to delete.

I may have found your problem. I am releasing an update to Ship's Bell that will include the fix. You should see it in a few days. Please update your comment if it fixes things.

The reviews for this app made me worry that it wouldn't work, but apparently I'm one of the lucky ones somehow. I got it just as a novelty, to relive the days on a ship listening for the bells over the 1MC, and it does that just fine.

Initially good. Spent time on ship with the Navy for a Med float and got used to the bells. Found this and enjoyed it. But after a day or so, they stopped running in the background and had to restart the app for them to run. Did it again so uninstall them. Great when they run but not so great when they stop.

I'm sorry you are having problems with this app. My only suggestion is to verify that battery optimization is turned off. That's definately necessary on Android 15. Check out this page from one of my other apps: https://bigbenbonger.com/HelpfulHints/ I hope this gets you going.

What’s new

* Fixed an issue on some devices, where the app extended beyond the screen so parts of the app were not visible.
