I really like playing this to practice reading and recognizing kanji, I do wish it had pronunciations I feel like it would be more efficient being able to hear the words as well. I also wish you could level up your character, you get to choose who you play as but it doesn't really matter in the long run. I've played through all of stage one and maxed out the stars, I'm on level 13 stage 2 now and I feel like I've improved recognizing kanji when reading but I wish the game aspect had more to it.

It asked for a review at level 4 so here goes. As an intermediate to advanced learner the game is cute but still needs work. There's a Google Play games option screen that doesn't work. Stuck at loading. Thankfully pressing back allows me to play the game but I don't know if I can save my progress. Graphics are smooth but learning is slow. Chracter cards don't have romaji or a sound file for each kanji. So how is a beginner to know how to pronounce the words. 😐 I'll update my review later.

combat isn't super interesting, not enough that I find myself loving this more then flashcards. I think it's cute but I'm not sure what else the battles add besides the risk of failing, but again it lacks any real mechanics to be a learning tool and a game at the same time, right now it's mostly just fancy flash cards. it's not a bad educational app per day but I'm still waiting for that perfect gamifucation japanese learning app that's super fun, and this isn't it for me.
