You are about to discover the Amici del mare app, part of the "Books for everyone" project: you will read Guido Quarzo's story digitally for the first time in symbols of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (CAA).
WHY CHOOSE BOOKS FOR EVERYONE
The aim of the project is to encourage accessible reading for all children who, alone or with help, will be able to choose three different ways to read the story of Friends in the Sea:
with modeling they will be able to tap on individual symbols to listen to the narrative voice
or they will be able to listen to the same voice in a continuous reading of the symbols, it will be easy to follow the story because the symbols light up when they are read
finally they will be able to choose the alphabetical text, deciding whether to read or listen, the narrative voice also accompanies them in this part
AN INCLUSIVE STORY
To involve children in the story, the author Guido Quarzo rewrote the original text of Amici nel mare, adapting it to the symbols of the CAA, simplifying the narrative structure to meet the needs of each child.
Young readers will find out if Pedro and Berto manage to leave their shelters and face the sea, despite the shark. And they will have fun with a story for children who want to grow up independently.
They will also learn about the underwater world of Pedro and Berto by tapping on the animated images. And they will participate in their adventures in the games section.
The animations and games were designed by the Paideia Foundation in collaboration with linguists, doctors and speech therapists in order to help children develop their sensory and linguistic abilities.
Finally children have a tool that speaks to them, telling them stories they can understand and love.
