A great option for foreigners traveling to India who wish to limit cash handling and leverage technology like the locals do. I registered with my US phone number, submitted a picture of the required documentation and used my US credit card to top-up my wallet. After a couple of failed top-ups due to Wi-Fi issues, I was successful in adding funds via cellular data. Then it was a breeze to pay by scanning merchant barcodes. A fun and convenient payment method, but with a 3.5% service charge.

The top up fee is high, but the app is fairly reliable. It gave me trouble a few times. One major problem is that it only works with merchant UPI, not personal UPI, so it can be useless depending on the situation. Most autos take only personal UPI in Kerala at least. I've had a few transactions that failed mysteriously at decisive times, so it is no replacement for cash, but all in all it's probably the best UPI app right now for foreign tourists in India.

Horrible app. Dear fellow tourists, I know this app says it's for tourists WELL IT'S A LIE. App is already slow from the get go, and though it does work for a few days, it'll suddenly stop. It won't load, you can't login, uninstalling and reinstalling the app does nothing. All your loaded money is now stuck there in perpetuity. What a scam.
