About this app
Moving Types is the companion app to the printed exhibition catalog "Moving Types – Letters in Motion" from z zg – Center for Time-Based Design (Mainz University of Applied Sciences and Schwäbisch Gmünd University of Design). The app brings the catalog to life and transforms your smartphone or tablet into an interactive cinema.
How it works: Next to each film in the catalog, a QR code with a four-digit number is printed. Scan the code with the app – the corresponding film excerpt will start playing directly on your device.
The Archive: The films come from the MOVING TYPES ARCHIVE. With more than 800 international moving image works spanning over 100 years, it tells the story of typography in motion and forms the basis of the media exhibition of the same name. The app gives you access to more than 80 curated works from the archive: artistic presentations of ARTE's themed evenings, music videos, animated broadcaster logos, historical MTV Art Breaks, and insights into the worlds of film and branding.

Good to know
• The films are only accessible via the QR codes in the printed catalog. Without the catalog, the app does not offer a searchable film list.
• An internet connection is required for playback.
• The scanner requires access to the camera. The camera image is processed exclusively on the device and is not saved.
• No account, no advertising, no in-app purchases.
• The user interface is in German.
• Android 8.0 and later.
