Earthquake Detection and Early Warning System

This app is dedicated to all lives lost in earthquake disasters. It was developed to keep their memory alive and to defend life.

MK Earthquake Monitor is an advanced earthquake application that works completely offline using only your phone's built-in sensors — detecting seismic activity and providing early warning. No data collection. No ads. No internet required.

⚡ HOW IT WORKS

When an earthquake occurs, two different waves are released. The faster P-wave arrives first — the destructive S-wave follows seconds behind. MK Earthquake Monitor detects both waves — two independent filters run in parallel, whichever satisfies its condition first triggers the alarm.

Most apps on the market only detect the S-wave — meaning they alert you after the shaking has already begun. Because MK Earthquake Monitor also detects the P-wave, it can warn you before the shaking starts for distant earthquakes.

📡 WARNING TIMES

Tested with real accelerometer records sourced from USGS and CESMD. In simulations of an Mw 7.3 earthquake, alarms were generated at all sensitivity levels and all test distances.

Warning time before S-wave arrival by distance:
· 50 km → approximately 5 seconds early · 100 km → approximately 7 seconds early · 200 km → approximately 15 seconds early

📊 ALGORITHM

Seismic acceleration is converted to the international MMI (Modified Mercalli Intensity) scale and displayed live on screen. The algorithm was developed through comparative calculations with standard values across the MMI III–VII range.

📈 MK SEISMOGRAPH

MK Earthquake Monitor keeps no records. To record and track tremor data, you can use the MK Seismograph app. It records tremors above your defined time and intensity thresholds and lets you view historical data. Available separately on the Play Store.
